Centrifugal Pump Selection

HOW TO SELECT A CENTRIFUGAL PUMP?

Basically, three pieces of information are needed to select a centrifugal pump.

  • Pump flow rate
  • Pump discharge head
  • Type of fluid to be pumped

By bringing together the data above, a pump capable of performing the required duty in the most efficient way is selected. Today, these selections are made using selection software. Which of the alternatives offered by the selection software will be most suitable for the field conditions is left to the experience of the person making the selection. Questions such as what the pump's construction will be, what material and seal type will be used, at what speed the pump will rotate to perform the required duty, or what parameters need to be ensured on-site to avoid problems such as vacuum in the pump, are entirely dependent on the person making the selection. Therefore, the more information that is conveyed to the person selecting the pump, the more accurate and long-lasting the pump selections that can be made.
